A journalist who served the Queen for 12 years has shared an unforgettable moment he shared with Her Majesty.

Dickie Arbiter was a press secretary from 1988 to 2000 and fondly recalls a moment from his early days in his employ.

“I was invited up to Balmoral to join her, and Prince Philip, and her lady in waiting on a picnic,” he said.

“Afterwards, the Queen said, ‘We need to clear up’, and I took that as my queue as the junior employee, just arrived, to go and do the washing up.

“Next thing I knew, there was a footfall behind me…”
