A mother whose 21-year-old son bought a property with his partner in Narangba has detailed her experience in dealing with the Oracle Building Corporation.

It comes after 4BC Drive became aware of dozens of examples of home-buyers who say they have been short-changed by the company.

Calli said her son and his partner has been waiting for almost two years for his house to be built and construction started almost 10 months late.

She also said the pair were “hit with a variation email” three weeks ago asking for $55,000, despite them signing a fixed-price contract.

“QBCC (Queensland Building And Construction Commission) actually sent a statement out saying ‘if you signed a fixed-price contract don’t agree to any variations’,” Calli said on 4BC Drive.

“But if we go to QBCC, as part of the contract, once you engage in QBCC in resolution, all work will stop on your site.”

The Oracle Building Corporation provided 4BC Drive with the following statement:

“Surging demand for new home builds, coupled with unprecedented supply chain issues, crippling labour shortages and a lack of government and regulatory support, have all married to cause never-before-seen challenges for the Australian residential construction sector, challenges which have spared no builder.

It’s estimated that nearly 1 of every 3 unfilled positions across the entire Australian workforce falls within the construction sector, with nearly 80% of vacant positions industry-wide going unfilled. Moreover, where building materials can be sourced, they have in some instances more than doubled in price – as a whole, the cost of building has increased more than 8% over the past year.

The repercussions of such stated challenges can be seen in the media with near-daily stories of famed
builders such as Metricon, Condev, Probuild, Pivotal, and Snowdon either struggling or collapsing into
liquidation, and the devastating impacts this has upon the families who were building with them.

In order to avoid such a fate, and such pain for all those relying upon us, Oracle Building Corporation,
working hand-in-hand with our family of clients, suppliers and trades, have had to innovate and adapt, and make tough choices to ensure our continued viability and success, despite how unpopular some of the decisions may be.

These choices have put us in a very strong position, ensuring we will be able to complete construction on all of our client’s dream homes, and ensure our shared successes long into the future.”
