An interview with convicted Bali bomb maker Umar Patek has been pulled down, just hours after it was uploaded to YouTube.

Patek spoke on camera in an interview filmed at Porong Prison, claiming his involvement in the 2002 attacks that killed 202 people was a mistake.

The inmate will be released on parole after serving half of his 20-year sentence as part of Indonesia’s Independence Day.

It took until 2012 for Patek, dubbed the “demolition man” to be tracked down, arrested and sentenced.

“My mistake was to be involved with the Bali bombing,” he said, according to a translation by the ABC.

“I told them I was against it but they were 95 per cent done with the project.

“950 kilograms of explosives were packed and ready, and they insisted on going ahead with it.”

Patek says he wants to work with other convicted terrorists in an effort to deradicalise them when he’s released.
