HEARTBREAK | Maroons come up short in thrilling State of Origin decider
New South Wales has claimed the 2019 State of Origin series with a nail-biting victory in the Game III decider.
82,565 fans packed into ANZ Stadium for the blockbuster contest, with the Blues firm favourites following a huge win in Game II.
But the Maroons were up for the fight and controlled a first half which was dominated by the referees.
New South Wales managed to get into the halftime break at 8-all and then almost ran away with things in the second period, racing out to a 20-8 lead.
The Maroons showed their famous fighting spirit though and managed to level things up with three minutes to play.
With the game seemingly heading to Golden Point, the Blues delivered one of the most famous finishes in Origin history.
Winger Blake Ferguson tiptoed down the touchline and threw a pass back in-field for man-of-the-series James Tedesco, who crossed to give New South Wales a 26-20 victory and back to back series wins for the first time since 2005
