Australian restaurants not ready to move away from gas cookers

Australian restaurants are pushing back against moves to make gas cookers a thing of the past.

Labor has agreed to implement a Greens-led plan to switch households and businesses from gas to electricity in next May’s budget.

Wes Lambert, deputy chair of the Australian Foodservice Advocacy Body, told Neil Breen the stakes are too high to rush through changes.

“Civilisation has been cooking over flames for thousands of years.

“The transition from gas to electric needs to happen over time, and only once the technology is ready.”
