After four years of continuous warfare it was on this day 101 years ago the guns of the Western Front finally fell silent.

On 11 November 1918, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing an end to the First World War.

In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them were killed.

Overall, the First World War claimed the lives of between nine and 13-million people as a result of the conflict.

Each year on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month Australians pause for one minute’s silence to remember all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The act of remembrance will remind us all of the debt we owe the fallen.

We will remember them.
