At least 17 people are dead and 24 are wounded after a gunman opened fire on a school in the Russian city of Izhevsk.

Russian officials said the 34-year-old gunman, who reportedly wore a shirt bearing Nazi symbols, was a former student of the school.

The deaths included 11 children, as well as teachers and security guards. The gunman killed himself after the incident.

A spokesperson for the Kremlin described the attack as “a terrorist act”.
