Calls for new laws to better protect Qld renters

A new survey has found many Queensland’s renters are living in “poorly maintained homes for fear of eviction and struggling with rental affordability.”

The research conducted for groups including CHOICE and the National Association of Tenant Organisations found 8% of Queensland renters had been evicted at least once without being given a reason while 58% are concerned asking for repairs would mean a rent rise.

Tenants Queensland CEO Penny Carr tells Mark that what’s needed is for the state government to ban ‘no grounds’ evictions and to place limits on rent rises.
