The sudden death of a two-year-old Brisbane girl has sparked a call for parents to be wary of Strep A.

A family tragically lost their young daughter last month after she was misdiagnosed.

Paul and Olga Williams took Nicole to their local GP after having a slight temperature, where she was diagnosed with a common viral infection.

When her symptoms worsened, she was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital, where days later, she suffered a cardiac arrest as a result of untreated Streptococcus A.

General practitioner Sonu Haikerwal told Sofie Formica while the situation may be sad, it’s a warning to other parents.

“I think it important to reflect on what are the messages,” she said.

“What do we need to learn from this as a system and what can we do better?”
