Latest: Heavy rain inundates large parts of QLD
Large parts of the state are being inundated with heavy rain today, with the SES receiving dozens of calls for help.
200mm was recorded in Townsville.
Near Mackay, a 31-year-old woman has died after her car was swept away in floodwaters.
Around 80mm is forecast today in the south-east.
QFES commander of state operations, Andrew Short, says there have been 295 requests for help for the SES although it appears the threat may be starting to ease.
“We are still seeing a bit of activity in the south-east Queensland, we are actually seeing a number of requests for help coming in for SES in the south-east corner,” he told Scott Emerson.
“So that’s probably going to continue over the next 24 hours at least, but then beyond that, we are looking towards the weekend it will clear up a bit.”
