Youth criminals from Brisbane hitting up the Gold Coast, local MP says

Surfers Paradise MP John Paul-Langbroek is speaking out about the issue of juvenile crime on the Gold Coast.
He said when police resources were re-deployed to hotel quarantine and border controls, some youth offenders felt as though they had a free pass.
“Some young people, not all young people, have used it as an opportunity to realise they are not going to get caught as often as they might otherwise have been,” he told Sofie Formica.
“And they are being operated with impunity, coming own to the Gold Coast a lot, often from Logan and Ipswich and I know that from local police, breaking into houses, stealing cars, and then when they are penalised or caught, they’ve ignored magistrate’s directions to stay home and have come down and committed offences again.”
He said there were numerous impacts on local crime.
