Workers on edge as vaccine mandate looms

The Queensland Government has today launched a new campaign, Be Kind at Check In Time, as fears mount staff will cop backlash and abuse from unvaccinated customers.

From Friday, unvaccinated customers won’t be able to visit hospitality venues such as hotels, pubs, clubs, restaurants or cafes, as well as indoor entertainment venues.

CEO of the National Retail Association Dominique LambĀ said looking at the experience across the country, there had been a significant spike in customer abuse and violence.

“What we need, and what we know works, is having visible uniformed police in locations,” she told Scott Emerson.

“We know that fines work … at the end of the day we need access to the people who are going to enforce these rules and that’s where it gets a bit difficult because we know police force are absolutely stretched.”

Ms Lamb said they weren’t confident that police could get there on time, due to resourcing constraints.
