In the first sitting week of parliament, the Albanese government has to address the “hip pocket issues” facing everyday Australians, analysts say.

This afternoon, the Greens announced it will vote with Labor to pass the government’s climate bill after securing changes to the legislation.

But 4BC’s federal political editor Michael Pachi says Australians want movement as cost-of-living bites.

“When push comes to shove, I think that people still want to know how are you going to deal with cost-of-living issues?” he said on Brisbane Live.

“You’ve got interest rates going up, you’ve got prices going up left right and centre, you’ve got people saying they are going to curb their spending … they are the real issues that are really going to be starting to affect people, hip pocket issues.

“This is where I do think the government is being a bit mute.”
