Wellcamp quarantine facility officially open, Opposition demands costing

The Wellcamp Quarantine Facility has officially opened its doors.
The Toowoomba site has already been used, with 60 people to complete their isolation this afternoon.
It’s expected that number will rise once international borders reopen and it houses travellers from countries impacted by new COVID strains, unvaccinated people, people who can’t isolate in another setting, foreign workers and students who don’t meet TGA vaccination requirements.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced today that hotel quarantine will end this week, with the quarantine facility to house travellers from countries impacted by new COVID strains, unvaccinated travellers and people who can’t isolate in other settings.
The Premier today said she would consider revealing the cost, if the federal government revealed the separate facility at Pinkenba.
Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said it’s still not clear the cost to taxpayers, and Queenslanders deserved to know.
“They made this nonsensical statement that if the federal government shows us how much their [Pinkenba] facility is costing, well then we can show you ours,” he told Scott Emerson.
“That’s not the way the law works, something is either commercial in confidence or it’s not.
“And in this case, there is no reason why [the government] shouldn’t be open and honest.”
