‘We warned you’: Medibank hackers expose data of another 241 customers

Hundreds more intimate details of Medibank customers have been released by hackers demanding $15 million in ransom.
The new data released includes mental health statuses, drug and alcohol addiction cases, and HIV details of another 241 customers.
Medibank has refused to pay the hefty ransom and says it expects the hacker will continue to leak highly sensitive information each day.
In a post on the dark web, the hacker said they were following through on their promise to release more data if the ransom wasn’t received.
“We warned you, we always keep our word, if we wouldn’t receive a ransom – we should post this data, because nobody would believe us in the future,” the post said.
“Same about our words, regarding we wouldn’t post any data in the future, if we receive a ransom payments.
“We never lies (sic) – it doesn’t make any sense, if we lie to somebody – nobody will thread u as a serious business side.”
Tech expert Trevor Long told 4BC Breakfast the data should be “normalised” to take away its value.
“If we normalise it, there’s no value to the data,” he said. “There’s no fear that exists and blackmail won’t happen.”
