Travis Head is gearing up for the first Ashes Test at the Gabba, after securing the spot to bat at No.5 ahead of Usman Khawaja.

Speaking on Wide World of Sports, Head said both would have loved the position.

“Either way the support has been great for myself and Usman leading into it, we are close, we’re both in form, obviously it could have gone either way.

“It’s great for the squad and Australian cricket that you’ve got guys in position we have, fighting for spots that are hard to get.”

He said it was a strong “A-team”.
