299 lives lost on Queensland roads in 2022, the second highest since 2009.

Dismayed traffic police say Queensland motorists can expect more roadside breath tests and speed cameras in a bid to bring the road toll down.

Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Stream police are constantly looking at ways to reach drivers to implore them to do the right thing.

“I wish I was relaying more positive news, but those figures, are our worst figures since 2009, when we lost 331 people.

“To lose 299 people this year, is horrible.”

He said the impacts of road trauma are long-lasting.

“I am speaking to pepe on a weekly basis that lost relatives, sons and daughters, years ago and they are still impacted by it.

“They have not got over it.”
