Tongan volcanic eruption brings unusual sunrises in Queensland

Recovery efforts in Tonga are being hampered by a large ash cloud in the wake of the volcanic eruption and subsequent tsunami.

The explosion of ash was seen from space and it sparked widespread tsunami and rough surf warnings, and evacuation orders in neighbouring countries.

Weatherzone meteorologist Joel Pippard said Queensland will see some of the effects of the volcanic eruption, with some unusual sunrises.

“We have seen a bit of an ash cloud move over from that system … because that eruption was so large, a lot of the particles that have reached Australia are really high up in the stratosphere, which means the are not going to impact what we do day to day,” he told Scott Emerson.

“The main thing that it actually will bring is vibrant coloured sunrises, very red throughout most of the morning.

“Might be a good opportunity to go to the beach and look at the sunrise tomorrow morning.”
