Two journalists have penned a series Grave Tales, which uncovers the fascinating stories beneath Australian headstones.

Helen Goltz and Chris Adam admit they both had a fascination with history and cemeteries and thought these were stories that deserved to be told.

“They’re important stories, they really are,” Helen tells Chris Smith.

The pair describe how they chose stories, first picking major events they wanted to cover, then going about finding people who could tell the story.

Three books, focusing on Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney have already been published in the series.

Their fourth on North Queensland will be on shelves in October this year.
