Staff sacked over Molly Meldrum’s Elton John incident

Carla Bignasca

The security guards who allowed Molly Meldrum onto the stage at Elton John’s concert in Melbourne have been sacked.

Meldrum managed to get on stage at AAMI Park, where his pants fell down. The music critic claims a faulty belt buckle was responsible for the incident.

4BC entertainment reporter Rob McKnight told Sofie Formica that Elton John never gave the guards the signal to get Meldrum off the stage.

“Elton has a special signal for when he’s in distress,” he said. “He didn’t give that signal while Molly was there.

“Now, this was Molly Meldrum, who is, in a public perception, a good friend of Elton’s, so if you’re going to allow anyone onto the stage, it would be Molly Meldrum.”

Press PLAY below to hear how the events of a 2019 concert would’ve made the situation even more confusing for the security guards
