‘Something needs to change’: Aged care facilities failing Queenslanders

Another instance of aged care facilities failing elderly Queenslanders in the Voice Referendum vote has come to light.

Janine’s 98-year-old mother lives in an aged care facility. Instead of a postal vote, a member from the AEC went to the facility to assist residents with voting.

When it was time to vote, the AEC member was in the room with the resident without supervision from facility staff and influenced Janine’s mum to vote ‘Yes’.

Janine told Peter Gleeson on Drive, “My mother turned 98 yesterday, she is not going to be around for the repercussions of this vote, yet, she’s been actively sought after to make a choice for somebody.”
