Soaring electricity prices, price caps on the agenda at National Cabinet meeting

Proposed price caps on coal and gas to help reduce electricity prices is set to dominate a meeting of National Cabinet this week.
But some of the states have been publicly critical of the idea floated by the federal government.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has been pushing back on the policy, saying Queensland would have to be compensated.
“Queenslanders own our assets,” she said.
“Some of those profits are going back to Queenslanders in terms of direct assistance for our households, to the tune in the last quarter of $175.
“There would have to be adequate compensation.”
Senior 9News reporter Tim Arvier mused whether an agreement or deal has already been reached between the Commonwealth and the states.
“If a deal has already been reached, then they can come up with something on Wednesday, and say ‘here it is we have worked out a compromise’.
“Everyone looks good, the Prime Minister looks to help everyone with power prices, Annastacia Palaszczuk
stood up for Queenslanders and they can all walk away saying isn’t it great when we work together.”
