Scenic Rim Mayor shuts down suggestions of ‘anti-mandate’ stance

The Scenic Rim Regional Council is denying suggestions by Senator Pauline Hanson it has taken a pro-choice stance on COVID-19 vaccinations.
Sofie Formica summarised during a speaking engagement at Warwick, Senator Hanson “lumped the Scenic Rim Regional Council in the councils that she said were pro-choice, and by default, then, anti-mandate”.
But Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor Greg Christensen denied the suggestion.
“I’m not sure where the Senator’s getting her information, but I’d welcome a call from her,” he told Sofie.
Mayor Christensen explained while Council did write to the state government two weeks ago, it was by no means taking a position against vaccines.
“[We asked] that it properly reviews everything that is in the mandate to ensure everything that’s considered is thoughtful about the risks it’s presenting and the angst it’s causing.
“We certainly acknowledge and recognise the concerns of the community members that have a pro-choice approach, but we see that as part of the wide spectrum across our community.
“But to be clear, we did not support a pro-choice position, we certainly haven’t said an anti-vaccine or an anti-mandate position.”
