Save Suttons Beach Pavilion: Locals rally for popular beachside venue

Scott Emerson

Passionate locals are planning on holding a peaceful rally in protest to a popular Redcliffe venue being razed.

4BC reported Suttons Beach Pavilion, an art deco building on the foreshore, would be demolished by the Moreton Bay Regional Council over fears of structural defects.

The plans will force the pavilion’s popular restaurant, cafe, bar and wedding venue to close this month.

Locals are hoping to protect the historic site.

“A digital petition has also been signed by more than 12,000 residents, who are begging for the council to reconsider levelling the 1937 built structure,” Scott Emerson explained.

The Suttons Beach Pavilion Preservation Group has also started a paper petition.

The group will also hold a peaceful rally at Suttons Pavilion next Sunday February 20 at 10am.
