Ray Hadley has called for the government to step in immediately before a lack of funding at the Westmead Children’s Hospital claims the life of a child.

At least 10 Intensive Care Unit beds are needed urgently as surgeries continue to be cancelled.

Ray says, “if one of these children tragically passes it will be at the feet of the Berejiklian government”.

“This is a disgrace. It comes from a government without a conscience.”

Brett Kelly is the father of five-year-old Audrey, whose heart surgery was cancelled yesterday.

“We’d been waiting many months to get a slot, and only 25 minutes before they were due to arrive at the hospital, they were told the surgery was cancelled.

“You’ve got some of the world best surgeons at this hospital literally calling you to say, ‘I can’t do my job, I can’t do this surgery because I don’t have the facilities I need’.”

Kristen Vernon, the mother of six-week-old Kai, also speaks with Ray about the cancellation of Kai’s surgery at 7.30am today.

“This is the third time. His surgery should’ve technically been done a couple of weeks ago. He needed it then.

“He’s definitely deteriorating. He struggles to feed, he struggles to breathe.”
