Queensland’s warmer winter takes a toll on mango production

Peter Gleeson

The unusually hot winter in Queensland has impacted mango production, resulting in fewer mangoes and higher prices.

Brett Kelly, CEO of the Australian Mango Industry Association, told Peter Gleeson on Drive, “Basically, it’s been a bit warmer than normal, and it affects the flowering, the volume is looking to be down from last year…but I must say, there will be plenty of mangos available for consumers right through for festive season.”

“…So this year now, what would normally happen, I think, is we’ll see the initial price holding a little bit longer, and that’s not a bad thing because it’s a fair price…” Mr. Kelly continued.
