Queensland police officer gets nine years for killing baby
A former Queensland police officer has been sentenced to nine years in jail for killing his baby son by punching him in the stomach.
Colin David Randall punched his 10-week-old son Kye in the stomach in June 2014 with such force it pulped the little boy’s liver.
The former Wynnum Police Station officer pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month, a week before he was due to face trial on a murder charge.
Randall has today been sentenced in the Brisbane Supreme Court to nine years jail.
Justice Peter David delivered a scathing assessment of the 41-year-old during sentencing, saying Randall had breached the duty he had to care for his son in the “most horrible and vile way”.
He will be eligible for parole after five years.
