Nerves are still sky-high among travellers fearful of ending up in quarantine in Queensland.

It comes after two planeloads of travellers were thrown into isolation by the state government this week amid a potential Omicron threat.

While that decision was overruled the day after, CEO of the Transport Tourism Forum, Mary Osmond, said travellers were very risk-averse.

“I have to say it is really really unfortunate, because this is the summer holidays we wanted to be huge, and everybody wants to come to Queensland,” she told Scott Emerson.

“I think unfortunately now what we are hearing in Melbourne, Victoria and NSW and Sydney, people are more actively cancelling trips into Queensland because they feel they can’t take the risk.

“While I do think places like the Gold Coast will bounce and see those bookings come back … it will be infinitely more difficult for Far North Queensland.”

She said she was being told anecdotally from operators in Far North Queensland that they were already seeing cancellations.
