Hundreds pull out of Queensland holidays after state’s ‘communication fail’

There have been hundreds of cancellations after two plane loads of travellers were told they’d have to quarantine over Christmas.

A man infected with COVID-19 was onboard a flight from Newcastle to Brisbane and another from Brisbane to Townsville on Monday.

Most passengers have since been reclassified as casual contacts and are allowed to leave isolation.

But Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Daniel Gschwind told Spencer Howson by then, “quite a bit of damage” was done.

“There were plenty of cancellations,” he said. “We had reports from operators who reported hundreds of cancellations for tours and accommodation.

“It was a communication fail, I have to say.”
