Push to bring forward date to re-open Queensland’s international borders

There is a push underway for Queensland to also reopen the international borders on December 17, when the Sunshine State is tipped to hit the 80 per cent double dose rate.
As part of the roadmap, it’s expected international tourists will be able to enter Queensland without having to quarantine when the state hits the 90 per cent double dose rate.
But chief executive of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, Daniel Gschwind, has called for the plan to be brought forward.
“I think there is a suspicion on their part I suppose that it would create greater risk to Queenslanders, a greater risk of introducing the virus.”
But he said if the 80 per cent threshold is considered safe to protect Queenslanders from the virus from domestic visitors, the risk was the same for international tourists.
NSW, Victoria and the ACT have already opened to the rest of the world.
