The sentencing hearing for Raban Alou, who was involved in the shooting of Curtis Cheng, has been delayed after Alou refused to stand for the judge.

Chris Smith speaks with 2GB Court Reporter Gil Taylor.

“Alou has decided he doesn’t want to stand for Justice Peter Johnson.”

“This is based on religious beliefs, but Justice Johnson pointed out the Australian National Imams Council has stated before the courts that there’s no religious reason preventing someone from standing or bowing before the court.”

Justice Johnson put this before Alou’s council, but Alou still refused to stand.

Gil tells Chris Justice Johnson will proceed anyway and has warmed Alou there could be ramifications for his actions.
