Top cop has no plans to stand down amid concerns within QPS culture
Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll has defended her leadership and promised reform amid mounting of claims of internal cultural issues.
Ms Carroll says she is trying to bring about change in the wake of a final report from an explosive inquiry into the handling of domestic violence, misogyny and racism in the force.
There are unconfirmed reports that the review suggested Commissioner Carroll was “distracted” by the COVID pandemic, as well as questioning her suitability.
But Ms Carroll defended her position today, saying she had no plans to stand down.
“As you know with a reform agenda, and that reform agenda will continue,” she said.
“It has been an extraordinarily difficult, difficult time.”
It comes amid shocking leaked recordings from 2019 from inside the Brisbane watch house were made public this week, where officers are heard making racist slurs.
She said the comments were truly abhorrent.
“Most of the good people in my agency are upset about it, they can’t fathom how people who can speak that way.”
