The changing face of motoring

In the beginning motoring was very much the reserve of the rich. Frankly if we believe what we read it again is going to be very much reserved for the wealthy.
We’re already being tolled out of existence but perhaps excessive tolls and a rapidly growing car population are not the only negative to the future of motoring as we know it. The arrival of electric cars in much bigger numbers is going to change the face of motoring – as we move away from petrol and diesel cars the Gov’t’s rake off of fuel excise is going to drop dramatically –Infrastructure Australia this week suggested Australia should move to a user-pays system to fund our roads. Axing fuel excise and vehicle registration fees, replaced by direct charging that reflects each user’s own consumption of the network – that consumption to include location, time and distance of travel and the individual characteristics of their vehicle such as weight and emissions watch this space – I’m David Berthon
