Skoda introduces the mid-size Karoq SUV

David Berthon

One of the more interesting SUV‘s I drove last year was Skoda’s large Kodiaq SUV – the company will shortly introduce its first mid-sized SUV called the Karoq, initially in 1.5-litre 110Kw turbo front-drive form with a more powerful 2.0-litre 140Kw turbo all-wheel-drive model to follow next year. The 110TSi Karoq goes on sale July 2 priced in six-speed manual at $29,990 while a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic will sell for $32,290. The Skoda Karoq leans heavily on the Volkswagen Group’s parts bin with underpinnings from the mechanically related Volkswagen Tiguan. Equipment levels include 17 alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, dusk sensing headlights, front fog lights, rain sensing windshield wipers and roof rails. The Skoda Karoq also gains an 8-inch colour touch screen, Apple Car Play and Android auto Bluetooth and USB connectivity, removable second row seats keyless entry and start. Driver assist technologies include autonomous emergency braking, driver fatigue detection a reversing camera and rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring. I’m David Berthon
