Rental affordability crisis for low income earners

Rental affordability for low-income earners has now reached the worst levels in a decade and it is considered a crisis.

Anglicare’s Rental Affordability Snapshot looked at almost 70,000 rental listing across the country and found there were no affordable properties available for a single person on Newstart or Youth Allowance in any major city or regional centre.

Things aren’t much better for people on the age pension with a single pensioner only have about 550 to choose from in the entire country.

Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers tells Mark 300,000 social and affordable properties are needed across Australia to address the crisis.
