Protesters’ permit unlikely to be issued as lord mayor talks rates, Story Bridge and State of Origin

Bill McDonald

Brisbane lord mayor Adrian Schrinner has taken aim at other levels of government as the new budget looks to cut rates.

“We’ve been really clear that we’re going to rein in the spending, keep the spending low so that we can keep rates low,” he told Bill McDonald.

He also revealed the council had considered a proposal from protestors to close a lane for pedestrians on the Story Bridge.

“We had a look, but it just wasn’t going to work,” he added.

The lord mayor says the protesters’ permit is unlikely to be approved, with Queensland Police heading to court to prevent the permit from being issued.
