Prison officers demand private operator be dumped

Around 70 prison officers have rallied outside 1 William Street in the city demanding the Palaszczuk Government dump the US based operator of the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre.

Officers claim GEO has allowed overcrowding, understaffing and has cut costs in order to win the tender to continue running the facility.

The NSW Government has dumped the company from operating one of its prisons and United Voice spokesman Damien Davie unless Queensland follows suit Prisons Minister Mark Ryan will have blood on his hands.
