Queensland is the only state in the country that does not have a compulsory state government funded swimming program in its primary schools.

Experts are calling on the government to introduce a compulsory program, to ensure more lives can be saved.

Swimming legend Laurie Lawrence spoke to Ben this afternoon.

He believes it is vital that children are taught to swim while at school.
