Perhaps the most awaited new car launch of the year – Holden’s all-new ZB fully imported Commodore – built in Russelsheim Germany by GM Affiliate Opel a global design but with
considerable local input. Three bodies, Liftback, Sportwagon and high-riding Tourer or wagon.
And three engines – 2.0-litre turbo petrol, 2.0-litre turbo diesel and 3.6-litre petrol. The ZB is the fifth generation Commodore in 40 years and has several firsts – a 2-0- litre turbo diesel, nine speed automatics on petrol models and adaptive all-wheel- drive – the latter on 3.6-litre V6 variants, the V6 added to the global program following Holden input. I drove both petrol engine models in Victoria and at Holden’s proving ground. In short, this is a new car to rave about, the best driving models in the models history, yet it will very hard to inspire a buying public that’s fallen in love with SUV’s. For that reason Holden knew it had to be a good car but frankly it’s an absolute cracker – I’ll explain in later segments. I’m David Berthon
