‘My secret was being myself’: Fatty reflecting on his 30-plus years in broadcasting

Paul Vautin has officially retired from broadcasting after more than three decades on Nine’s Wide World of Sport.

The rugby league legend told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, ‘the game’s in a great spot… they’re doing their best. It’s just a couple of things that annoy me, but that’s not the reason I retired.’

‘I retired because I just ran out of petrol and in the end, I started driving to Brisbane for a Friday night game, going, you know what, I wish I was at home watching the footy tonight rather than driving up here and calling it.

So, I just ran out of juice,’ Vautin said.

Fatty said he feels ‘proud and contented’ with his broadcasting career.
