Hyundai to introduce an all-new compact SUV – the Venue – in second half of the year

David Berthon

I recently rented a Hyundai Accent automatic in Melbourne – a rather long in the tooth rent-a car that had been driven well over 90,000 kms, rather hard kilometres I suspect at that. What surprised was how well it drove despite a hard life – the Hyundai Accent hatch is our top selling light car by a considerable margin and represents 1 in 5 light car sales. Its coming to the end of its life however and last week at New York Motor Show Hyundai showed off a new small SUV that will replace it as its most affordable model. The Hyundai Venue will be offered with a sub-20,000 starting price and will sit under the current one-size-larger Kona range. Power to the front-drive only Venue comes from a 1.6- litre four-cylinder engine with a choice of six speed manual or automatic. Visually this new light SUV from Hyundai really looks the goods and given our love affair with all things SUV its success is almost certainly assured. I’m David Berthon
