FULL SHOW: Weekends with Carla Bignasca (Filling in for Peter Fegan) – Sunday, 23rd June 2024

Carla Bignasca

On the show: Carla is back to round up your weekend. First up, the Brisbane City Council has warned that the bus network will not be able to cope with a surge in demand, once the state government’s 50 cent fares kick in August. We hear your thoughts on this issue, and later hear from Chandler Ward Councillor and Council Transport Chair Ryan Murphy. Councillor Murphy provides his thoughts on this, as well as the news this week that one of Queensland’s largest bus operators will no longer provide safety officers to protect drivers and passengers on high-risk routes.

Retired Australian Special Forces Commando and 20 year veteran Wes Hennessey joins Carla for the Sunday Breakdown. Wes provides his comments on Peter Dutton’s nuclear energy announcement, Victoria raising the age of criminal responsibility and the latest shenanigans of Townsville’s embattled mayor Troy Thompson.

University of Southern Queensland Associate Professor Andrew Hemming joins the program to discuss the recent raising of the age of criminal responsibility in Victoria further. Professor Hemming explains what the current entails, why he has been so opposed to this move and what he feels the consequences of this change will be.

Cyber Security Expert Jack Reis joins Carla to give tips on how we can be more secure with our online information and explains the Government’s recent campaign called ‘Act Now, Stay Secure’, as more and more Australians (1 every 6 minutes) are getting caught up in scams.

Elsewhere on the show: former Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Nick Coatsworth joins Carla on the show. After being the reassuring voice at the peak of the pandemic, Dr Coatsworth can now add TV host to his resume – fronting Nine’s new four part series ‘Do You Want to Live Forever’ alongside Tracey Grimshaw. Dr Coatsworth tells us more about what we can expect from this series, as well as his thoughts on our perceived complacency towards to COVID 4 years on.

Finally, 4BC Sports Reporter Sam Leckie provides an extensive update of the weekend action and we look ahead to the coming week with your long-range weather forecast.
