Driving a full time occupation and not a casual endeavour

David Berthon

Holiday time and a time when we need a gentle reminder that driving is a serious business deserving concentration and an awareness of what’s around us. A reminder that driving is a full time occupation and not a casual endeavour. Texting and talking on the phone is still a major problem but so too are those drivers who eat behind the wheel. Quite clearly, the new camera’s being introduced by the N.S.W. Government are going to have a field day. Many driver’ today don’t give a second thought to eating and drinking behind the wheel, more so at holiday time in a more relaxed atmosphere – unlike hand held phone use there is no specific law prohibiting eating while driving but you can still fall foul of Australian Road Rule 297 that states: “a driver must not drive a vehicle unless the driver has proper control of the vehicle.” Fine: $433 and three demerit points. With double demerit points in force it could well cost you your license. I’m David Berthon
