Not wearing a helmet can earn cyclists in Queensland a $130 on the spot fine.
There are those who argue that the fine is excessive and that helmets actually discourage people from taking up cycling.
The Freestyle Cyclists group is campaigning to change the law organising a ‘helmet free’ ride in Brisbane to highlight ‘helmet choice’ and local ride organiser Geoff McLeod wants to convince people it’s not a safety issue.
