Concerns for Queensland’s homeless population as requests for blankets increase

Gary Hardgrave

Micah Projects has revealed there has been an increase in requests for blankets by Queenslanders sleeping rough as the weather cools down.

Chief executive officer Karyn Walsh also told 4BC Drive the number of those sleeping rough in tents isn’t indicative of how many are in unstable housing.

“We know people move in and out of boarding houses due to conflict, because of unsustainable rent, and people can’t get into the private market or social housing,” she said.

Ms Walsh also hit back at claims some homeless people choose to sleep rough due to their mental health.
