Citroen’s C5 AirCross SUV – the best product from the French car maker for some time

David Berthon

Talking further on this week’s launch of the Citroen C5 AirCross SUV – Citroen Australia has really pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this one – the most impressive new Citroen and an SUV that really suits our market in so many ways – a two-wheel drive medium sized five door SUV with so much style and panache, a practical roomy interior with a great balance of seat and luggage space – two models, the C5 AirCross Feel at $39,990 and the better equipped Shine at $43,990. High points – ride quality – both cars come with Citroen’s new progressive hydraulic Cushion suspension, the higher grade Shine gains Citroen’s all-new advanced comfort seats in leather as well as an acoustic glass package and its very quiet on-road. Both models are powered by a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder driving through six-speed automatic with shift paddles – I managed 7.4 L/100km with a mix of driving although it does require more expensive 95-RON fuel. All aspects of the C5 AirCross’s performance is excellent – however its best points relate to the cabin, comfort is a high point, so too versatility, the second row consists of three equal width seats which are length adjustable by 150mm. Some nice touches include a reversing camera, electric park brake, cornering light function, hill start assist, collision risk alert; it’s highly equipped, especially in the Shine model, which gets larger 19-inch dia, wheels sensibly shod with 205 x 55 series tyres. This Citroen has real character as distinct from being quirky – the best product we’ve seen from the French company for some time. I’m David Berthon.
