Calls not to let the new waste levy go to waste

Seven weeks ago Ben broke the news that large Queensland councils are working on a plan to end dumps and replace them with waste-to-energy plants.

Tomorrow’s state budget will reintroduce a $70/tonne waste levy across Queensland.

The Local Government Association Queensland wants that money quarantined to build these new plants.

LGAQ Chief Executive Greg Hallam tells Ben it’s a vital step in solving our escalating waste management problem.
