Years of concerns about people plundering shellfish around Sandstone Point across from Bribie Island have reached a crescendo.

So far this year Fisheries officers have handed out more than 70 infringement notices and almost $20,000 in fines for people illegally taking oysters and pipis.

Local MP Simone Wilson tells Mark the problem is so bad it’s time that taking shellfish in the area should be totally banned.
