Brumbies to be culled under plan for Kosciuszko National Park
Michael is joined by Peter Cochran, former member for Monaro & owner/operator of Cochran Horse Treks, to discuss the draft plan for managing wild horses in Kosciuszko National Park which is open to public submissions until November 2.
The plan’s aim is to reduce the number of brumby from a reported 14,000 down to just 3,000 in order to balance support for the brumbies’ cultural heritage values with the need to protect the fragile alpine ecosystems from the damage they cause.
Mr Cochran however disputes these figures saying that the amount of brumbies listed is far less than reported.
