Brisbane rate rises higher than inflation

Brisbane ratepayers will be slugged an average 2.5% extra in rates while the city borrows big to pay for improved roads and public transport.

A third of the Brisbane’s Council’s $3.1-billion budget is dedicated to infrastructure projects, including the new Brisbane Metro.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk tells Ben the increases are necessary if the council is to tackle congestion and create a more liveable city.
